Don Emphasizes Significance of Financial Inclusion and Digital Transformation in Empowering Women at DLI Seminar
A Senior Lecturer, Dr. Lukman Oyeyinka Oyelami, has emphasized the significance of financial Inclusion and digital transformation as a mechanism to empower women.
He stated this at the January edition of the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), Monthly Seminar Lecture Series held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Institutes’ Board Room. In attendance at the lecture titled ‘’Financial Inclusion and Digital Transformation of Women in Lagos Suburbs: Implications on Household Income and Welfare’’ were senior members of the Institute including Director, Professor Risikat Dauda; Institute Secretary, Mr. Olagoke Oke; among others.
According to Dr. Oyelami, women are known to be responsible for taking care of the home front and as such emphasis must be placed on the need for tailored interventions and policies that addresses the unique barriers faced by women in accessing financial resources and leveraging digital technologies for business development.
Dr. Oyelami highlighted the specific implications of financial inclusion and digital transformation on women’s entrepreneurship. He opined that access to financial services and digital platforms can facilitate the growth of women-led businesses in the suburbs of Lagos.
He further stressed the positive socioeconomic impact of women having access to digital tools and resources, as well as formal financial systems.
His words “ ..the potential for inclusive economic growth through targeted interventions that prioritize gender equality and women’s empowerment will enable them to participate more actively in economic activities and decision-making processes within their households”.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Director of the Distance Learning Institute, Prof. Risikat Dauda appreciated the audience, noting that the seminar would provide an opportunity for engaging discussions on strategies to promote financial inclusion and digital empowerment for women.
The seminar which was well attended by members of the university community is the first in the year 2024.
